    Farmer Brothers has an exciting opportunity for a Director Total Rewards, reporting to the Senior Vice President Human Resources, the Total Rewards leader is responsible for the continuous development, implementation, communication and maintenance of the Company’s total rewards functions, including Compensation, Benefits, HRIS, Recognition, and Compliance. Serves as a key member of the HR leadership team, demonstrating HR, financial, and business acumen beyond the scope of the Total Rewards role. Crafts a Total Rewards strategy to align with and drive the performance of the business, considering competitive positioning, employment branding, and employee engagement & reward. Pro-actively researches, analyzes and assesses market data, incorporating industry trends and best practices into the Total Rewards strategy. This role will work closely with functional leaders, the C-suite and Board of Director Compensation Committee members regarding enterprise wide compensation matters. The Total Rewards defines, develops and implements strategic Compensation and Benefits initiatives that align with the Company brand, vision, culture and strategic plans. 


    Director of Total Rewards will be a hands-on leader with deep business acumen, strategic insight, sound judgment and in-depth executive experience in compensation and benefits. The successful candidate will need to be energized by challenge, be forward thinking and creative, attentive to details, credible and dedicated to producing work of the highest caliber.

    • Direct the design and development of the company’s broad-based wage and salary programs and structures including competitive short and long-term incentive plans.  
    • Analyzes rewards programs to ensure that they align with business strategy, market competitiveness, cost effectiveness. Ensures that rewards programs optimize the organization’s ability to attract and retain top talent.
    • Responsible for ensuring compensation plans comply with country, state, and local laws and regulations and position. Partner with finance and legal organizations on SEC filing related matters.
    • Manage relocation and recognition functions.
    • Design, implement and routinely assess competitive benefits position, relative to market, and ensure program compliance on a local, state/provincial and federal basis.
    • Develop health programs to encourage a focus on healthy lifestyles, control costs and outcomes, and support the company values and employment value proposition.
    • Use extensive knowledge of the health care landscape to assess benefit design, to implement and manage the company’s health and welfare programs, ensuring competitive, cost-effective plans that drive a wellness culture. Partner with and actively manage benefit plan, vendors, auditors, and consultants for services, premiums, and plan administration.



    • Bachelor Degree in HR, Mathematics, Business Admin or related area of study.  Master's Degree or Certifications preferred.
    • This executive will have a minimum of 10+ years of experience and a proven track record of leading the TR function for a multi-site, multi-state organization, preferably in manufacturing and distribution.
    • Experience as a Compensation and Benefits leader for a publicly-traded company. 
    • Proven experience working closely with a Compensation Committee of a Board as well as external compensation consultants. Executive compensation experience is a plus
    • Experience designing company-‐wide compensation and benefits plans and ensuring correlation with the business strategy.
    • Experience in M&A integration and project management
    • A strong working understanding of HIPAA, ERISA, IRS and SOX regulations.
    • Experience leading the HRIS function, with special focus on process improvement, implementing HRIS systems and proven track record of system oversight and IT partnership.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization, up to and including C-suite and BOD.
    • Financial and general business acumen that exceeds the typical expectation for the role.
    • Proven track record in designing and implementing total rewards strategy, in concert with senior management and the Board, including the preparation and presentation of Compensation Committee materials.
    • Depth of experience working with compensation consultants, other key compensation vendors, and in delivering compensation related communications with major shareholders.
    • Demonstrate ability to achieve goals through influencing, partnering and developing productive relationships with senior leadership and line managers across the business. Be recognized as the “go-to” person for all compensation and benefits issues. Self-starter with a proactive and inquisitive nature who can anticipate and preempt problems.
    • Superior people leader, team builder and collaborator who navigates well through diverse, rapidly changing work environments.
    • Proven ability to work effectively in a rapidly changing organization helping to recruit, develop, and retain talent as part of a high-performing organization. Excels in the face of high expectations.
    • Experience managing complex projects and budgets to align with business conditions.
